I tend to go off on tangents, so don't take anything I say personally. Now that I've set you up to expect the worst...

The other night, I was walking through Waikiki with a co-worker / good friend when we happened across a scruffy caucasian man, sitting on ground and playing a South-Asian-looking, stringed percussive instrument (meaning he used mallets). He got our attention, found out that we'd just come from a punk show, and enticed us by very boiserously reminiscing about a favorite middle-eastern punk band he knew. However, he ruined our night by unexpectedly preaching his religious beliefs to us. Still, as we walked away from him (some half-hour later), I couldn't help but feel a little... encouraged; encouraged to have interacted with somebody who, while I didn't agree with him/his beliefs/his methods by any stretch, was so fully and willingly devoted to something.

I think there's a moral there, but I'm too sleepy to see what it is. You think about it.
